Added to rubber, plastic, adhesives, or concrete, they dramatically increase tensile modulus (low-strain stiffness), abrasion resistance, green strength, and dimensional stability — in ways conventional fillers can’t. Note: unlike particle fillers, short-cut fibers typically increase stiffness at low strains while decreasing ultimate elongation — a composite behavior that must be accounted for in compound design.

Short-cut fibers have a fundamentally different geometry from particle fillers like carbon black or kaolin clay. Their high aspect ratio creates a composite reinforcement effect — improving properties in multiple directions, including ones that round particles can’t influence. Our customers find savings in the process: reduced cycle times, less waste from improved green strength in unvulcanized sheeting, and fiber that simply costs less than fabric reinforcement.

Short fibers interrupt crack propagation. Using fiber ends at the compound surface significantly improves abrasion resistance in belts, rollers, and friction materials.

Fibers orient with rubber flow during milling, calendering, and extrusion — creating directional
stiffness that can be designed into part geometry.

Aramid fibers maintain performance at elevated temperatures. PAN carbon fibers add electrical conductivity and anti-static capability to rubber and plastic compounds.

Natural cotton and cellulose fibers, plus post-industrial tire cord streams (nylon and polyester), give formulators a path to sustainable content without sacrificing performance.

Fiber reinforcement often costs less per unit of performance than woven fabric, while reducing
cycle times and improving green strength in unvulcanized sheeting.
